Vatican Radio will take part in the 96th General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union in Prague from June 24-26, 2026. The EBU is the world’s largest association of public service media, with 113 public radio and TV broadcasters from 56 countries. As one of the EBU’s founding members, Vatican Radio will be represented by Alessandro Gisotti, Deputy Director of the Dicastery for Communication.
The summit at the Cubex Centre in Prague will bring together directors-general and senior leaders to discuss the biggest challenges facing public media today. Key topics include the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, how public broadcasters cover international crises, and striking the right balance between digital innovation and maintaining trusted, quality news. With misinformation and fast-changing tech reshaping the media landscape, the assembly aims to set a common strategy so European citizens can still rely on accurate, independent information to make decisions.
Founded in 1950, the EBU coordinates content sharing, technical standards, and joint projects like the Eurovision Song Contest and major sports coverage for its members. Vatican Radio’s participation reflects the Holy See’s ongoing commitment to public service broadcasting and dialogue on media ethics. Gisotti will join discussions in the Radio Committee, where the role of audio and podcasts in the AI era is a main focus.
The General Assembly is the EBU’s highest decision-making body. It meets twice a year — the summer session in a host member country, and the winter session at EBU headquarters in Geneva. Decisions made in Prague will guide the union’s budget, policies, and priorities for the year ahead, as public broadcasters across Europe adapt to a more digital, fragmented media world.
