366: Repose of Pope Liberius, who is accused to have been restored from exile only after swearing to a heretical Arian creed.
673: Theodore of Tarsus, the Archbishop of Canterbury, opens the Synod of Hertford, the first council representing the whole English church, and attended by five bishops.
1059: Emperor Isaac Comnenus, who was on a mission against the barbarians along the Danube, has a narrow escape during a terrific storm. He rebuilt the Church of Thekla upon his return to Constantinople in gratitude for this miraculous escape.
1794: Ten Orthodox monks arrive at Kodiak in Alaska and establish a mission among the natives.
1827: Catherine McAulay founds the New Order of Sisters of Mercy in Ireland, with the charism of teaching the poor and homeless mothers.
1916: The General Council of the Assemblies of God ordains Francisco Olazábal, who formed the Latin American Council of Christian Churches five years later, the first independent Latino Pentecostal denomination in the United States.
1934: Demise of A.T. Robertson,well known as educator, soul-winner, inner-city preacher, and the author of a monumental New Testament grammar.
1938: Passing away of Silouan of Athos, an uneducated Russian monk and ascetic, who had become famous through his spiritual counsel, prayer, and love of enemies.
1939: Demise of Juji Nakada, a Japanese evangelist, who inspired the formation of the Wesleyan-tradition Oriental Missionary Society (OMS — known as One Mission Society today) and who facilitated the establishment of a Bible Institute in Japan through Charles and Lettie Cowman of the US.
1986: Five Muslim professors confront Daniel Scot in Pakistan, trying to force him to convert to Islam and making him the first Christian charged under Pakistan’s blasphemy law.
