Pope Leo XIV celebrates a milestone birthday today, September 14, 2025, marking 70 years of life and just a few months as the Successor of St. Peter. As the first American and Peruvian Pope in history, he’s receiving heartfelt wishes and prayers from Catholics worldwide.
Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago on September 14, 1955, Pope Leo XIV entered the Order of St. Augustine, was ordained a priest in 1982, and earned a doctorate in Canon Law from Rome’s Angelicum University. His pastoral mission took him to Peru, where he served in Chiclayo and Trujillo, leaving a lasting impact.
He recalled his “beloved diocese of Chiclayo in Peru” in his first words, highlighting his connection to the faithful people there. His pontificate emphasizes dialogue, peace, dignity of work, and defending creation and human dignity, especially in the age of AI.
