Pope Francis’ Good Friday Message: “God’s Economy Does Not Kill or Crush”

In his Good Friday meditations for the Way of the Cross at the Colosseum, Pope Francis emphasized the importance of embracing “God’s economy,” which “does not kill or crush.” Despite being unable to attend the ceremony in person due to health issues, the Pope prepared reflections for the 14 stations, highlighting the need for hope and transformation in a world marked by suffering and injustice.

The Pope’s meditations critiqued the current economic system, describing it as “inhuman” and prioritizing the value of individuals over profits. He also emphasized the importance of prayer, conversion, and recognizing one’s own sinfulness, trusting in Christ’s power to bring about change.

Throughout the stations, Pope Francis prayed for various groups, including those at borders, the just and unjust, and those who are invisible and voiceless. He also called for peace and unity in the Catholic Church, asking God to “grant peace and unity to your Church, Lord Jesus, who bears the wounds of our history.”

The Pope’s message concluded with a reflection on hope, emphasizing that God is present among those who still hope and can transform seemingly impossible situations into new possibilities.
