US Vice President JD Vance and his family attended the Good Friday liturgy at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, celebrated by Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti on behalf of Pope Francis. Vance, a Catholic convert, was accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children, Mirabel, Ewan, and Vivek. Before attending the ceremony, Vance met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss trade policies and tariffs.
In a social media post, Vance wished Christians worldwide a happy Good Friday, saying, “He died so that we might live”. The vice president is expected to meet with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, on Saturday, although a meeting with Pope Francis is not officially scheduled due to the Pope’s ongoing recovery from double pneumonia.
