Sr. Beatrice Dal Santo from Italy is elected as the Mother General of the Daughters of Sacred Heart of Jesus(DSHJ) Congregation. Sr. Daniela Perina(Italy), Sr. Eugenia Krinski (Brazil), Sr. Maria Paul Vadakkeveettil(India), Sr. Neusa Falcade(Brazil) were elected as the Councillors of the community. The election was held in Loreto, Italy.
Daughters of Sacred Heart of Jesus congregation was founded by Teresa Verzeri and Monsignor Joseph Bonalio in 1831, Bergamo, Italy. This small community grew and expanded very quickly to various countries. The daughters of Sacred Heart provided education and worthwhile in view according to the needs of the time as the women were considered marginalized. They could upbring many girls to the new pathways of life with a concrete basement of spirituality. Acquiring power from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, those small community of religious sisters came forward to do many things for the society despite the crisis. Their missionary spirit rapidly spread to Brazil, Africa, Mozambique, Romania, Germany and India. These nuns were guided to share the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus through their different means of activities among the poor and needy.
In India, they expanded their mission on January 18, 1980 at Kudamalur in Kottayam district of Kerala. The sisters of the community extended their hands to the marginalized people in the society. They carry out their mission through catechisis, healthcare, family renewal, care for the mentally retarded and care for the orphaned girls. Over 100 nuns, in 14 communities, are involved in the social and pastoral activities of their mission areas. Relying solely on the providence of God, this community continues to serve the people of Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra in India.
