Pope Francis Urges Priest Confessors to be “Men of Prayer and Ministers of Mercy”

In a message to priest confessors participating in the 35th course on the internal forum, Pope Francis encouraged them to be “men of prayer and ministers of mercy,” prolonging the work of Jesus.

The course, organized by the Apostolic Penitentiary, takes place from March 24 to 28, during the Lenten season of the Holy Year 2025. The Pope emphasized the importance of celebrating mercy, especially during this Jubilee year.

Pope Francis urged the priest confessors to be rooted in prayer, which is the foundation of their ministerial action. He reminded them that, as ministers of mercy, they have the privilege of prolonging Jesus’ work, who continues to repeat: “Neither do I condemn you; go and, from now on, sin no more.”

The Pope expressed his hope that the liberating word of the Lord would resonate throughout the Church during this Jubilee year, leading to the renewal of hearts and the opening of new fraternal relationships.

In conclusion, Pope Francis thanked the priest confessors for their indispensable sacramental ministry and asked them to pray for him. He also imparted his blessing, asking the Virgin Mary to guard them in the love and patience of Christ.
