Pope Francis Approves the Ecclesial Conference of Amazon Region 

Pope Francis approved the ecclesial conference of the Amazon region on Wednesday. The Pontiff canonically erected the ecclesial conference as a “public ecclesiastical juridical person” during the meeting with CArdinal Marc Ouellet, the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops.

The Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon was organised by bishops in Latin America in 2020. “Promoting common pastoral action by the diocese of the Amazon and encouraging greater inculturation of the faith in this territory,” said the Pope. Cardinal Claudio Hummes is the President of ecclesial conference. This conference will be an autonomous group connected with the Latin American Episcopal Council(CELAM).
