Pope Francis addressed participants at a UN meeting on Indigenous Peoples, emphasizing their right to maintain their cultural identity and access to essential natural resources. He highlighted that land, water, and food are vital for life and the connection indigenous peoples have with nature. His message was delivered during the 7th Indigenous Peoples’ Forum organized by IFAD in Rome.
The Pope pointed out that indigenous rights are under threat due to farmland being seized by corporations and governments, which harms their communities and dignity. He stressed the importance of recognizing their contributions and protecting their resources as a matter of justice and sustainability.
Pope Francis called for a collective effort to ensure future generations enjoy a harmonious world and prayed for successful efforts to safeguard indigenous rights, inspiring world leaders to pursue the common good.
