Saint Bernadette Soubirous, the well-known seer of the Virgin of Lourdes, composed a prayer in honor of the Mother of God to ask for a special virtue.
It was noon on 11 February 1858. The little girl heard a noise in a cave and saw the Virgin with resplendent light. She looked for her rosary and began to pray with Santa María.
The Virgin appeared to him 17 more times and on different days. The Queen of Heaven used to ask her to pray for sinners and she urged her to do penance.
Over time, the saint wrote a special prayer to the Virgin of Lourdes to ask for the gift of humility. This prayer, according to the parish of Saint Francis of Assisi in the Diocese of Annecy (France), is known as “the Magnificat of Saint Bernadette”.
The sentence is as follows:
O Mary, tender Mother,
you descended to earth to appear to a weak girl
and to tell you some things,
despite its great indignity…
You, Queen of heaven and earth,
it was good enough to use what it was
weakest in the world.
Oh Mary, give to whoever dares to call yourself your daughter
this precious virtue of humility.
Do, oh tender Mother,
that your daughter imitates you in everything and for everything,
in a word, that I be a girl according to his heart
and that of your beloved Son. So be it.
