Pope Francis conveyed a prayer to President Donald J. Trump on Monday, marking his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
“In honor of your inauguration as the forty-seventh President of the United States,” the Pope wrote, “I extend my warm greetings and offer my prayers that Almighty God may bless you with wisdom, strength, and protection as you carry out your important responsibilities.”
He further prayed, “May God guide your efforts to foster peace and reconciliation among nations.”
“Drawing inspiration from your nation’s ideals as a land of opportunity and inclusion, I hope that under your leadership, the American people will thrive and work toward creating a more just society, free from hatred, discrimination, and exclusion.”
“At the same time, as our global family confronts many challenges, including the devastating impact of war, I pray that God will guide your efforts to promote peace and foster reconciliation among nations.”
“With these thoughts, I call upon divine blessings for you, your family, and the cherished American people.”
