Pope Francis has expressed his concerns about the state of the world, particularly with regards to wars, in an interview with Argentine journalist Bernarda Llorente. The Pope emphasized the importance of dialogue and called for a collective effort to achieve peace, stating that “countless calls for peace from international organizations go in one ear and out the other.” He also criticized the hypocrisy of talking about peace while engaging in war.
The Pope warned about the dangers of a Third World War, citing a “universal tendency to self-destruction through war.” He drew parallels with the story of the Tower of Babel, highlighting the need for a peace treaty. Pope Francis also addressed leaders who spread denialist discourse, saying that denying reality only leads to further conflict. Instead, he emphasized the importance of unity, reality, and time in resolving human problems.
In the interview, which was broadcast exclusively on Canal Orbe 21, the Pope also reflected on the current state of the Church. He expressed his desire for a Church that is inclusive and welcoming to all, and emphasized the importance of living the upcoming Jubilee 2025 “from within” and seeking God’s forgiveness. The Pope’s words come as a call to action, urging individuals and leaders to work towards peace, unity, and reconciliation.
