Wednesday of the 1st Week in Advent: 04 December 2024 Wednesday, Is. 25:6-10a, Mt. 15:29-37 Compassion

“I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way” (Mt. 15:32).

The healing and feeding described in today’s Gospel took place on a hill near the Sea of Galilee. Jesus’s heart was broad enough to embrace everyone came to him namely, the lame, the maimed, the blind, and the dumb and he healed them all. When he senses that those who were following him for three days were hungry, his heart does not want to send them away lest they faint on the way. God is not indifferent to our struggle, immune to our pain and insensitive to our need.

Compassion is not simply feeling for others. It is sharing other’s sufferings!
