The Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land has released its highly anticipated 2025 liturgical calendar, highlighting key pilgrimage dates to sacred sites. This annual tradition, overseen by Brother Enrique Bermejo since 1991, combines the general Roman Calendar, the Order of Friars Minor, and the Custody’s unique celebrations.
The calendar, available in Latin, Italian, English, and Spanish, follows the liturgical cycle of Year C and provides detailed information for the Liturgy of the Hours and daily Mass, including liturgical vestment colours and readings. Notably, green is the chosen colour for special events and anniversaries, including pilgrimages to Holy Places.
Featuring stunning images from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C., the calendar serves as a visual and pastoral aid to illustrate liturgical feasts. Brother Enrique emphasizes the importance of presenting a theologically complete image to illuminate the mysteries of salvation.
The 2025 calendar marks the beginning of the liturgical year on the eve of the first Sunday of Advent, coinciding with the Custos of the Holy Land’s traditional entry into Bethlehem on November 30. This meaningful publication guides the faithful through the liturgical year, connecting them to the sacred sites and traditions of the Holy Land.
