This Christmas season, the Vatican will showcase the “Nativity of Bethlehem 2024” in the Paul VI Hall, a poignant tribute to the Holy Land. In addition to the traditional Nativity scene and towering fir tree in St. Peter’s Square, this special exhibit features intricate Christmas representations crafted by skilled artisans from Bethlehem.
The “Nativity of Bethlehem 2024” will be inaugurated on December 7 in the Paul VI Hall, with representatives from the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Holy See and other delegations attending an audience with Pope Francis. Designed by Bethlehem artists Johny Andonia and Faten Nastas Mitwasi, the three-meter-high main structure boasts a circular base showcasing various Nativity scenes, topped by the iconic Star of Bethlehem.
This unique display seamlessly blends centuries-old local traditions with contemporary elements, highlighting the significance of the Holy Land as the sacred site of Jesus’ incarnation, birth, passion, death, and resurrection. By showcasing the artisans’ craftsmanship, the Vatican aims to honour the rich heritage of the region and its enduring connection to the Christmas story.
The “Nativity of Bethlehem 2024” will serve as a powerful reminder of the Holy Land’s importance in the history of salvation, inviting visitors to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.
