UNICEF Warns of Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon as Conflict Escalates

The escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has led to a devastating humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, with over 300,000 children displaced and more than 100 killed since October 2023. UNICEF has launched an urgent appeal for $105 million to support lifesaving interventions, as needs outstrip response capabilities.

UNICEF has scaled up operations, reaching 50,000 individuals in 200 shelters with essential supplies and services. However, the organization requires urgent support to sustain and expand its response. Executive Director Catherine Russell calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of children and civilian infrastructure, and safe access for humanitarian actors.

Bishop César Essayan expressed concerns about long-term consequences and emphasized the need to rediscover humanity and stop the war to prevent future violence.

The international community is urged to mobilize support and ensure open supply routes for essential aid to reach needy children.
