Catholics do fasting every Friday and during Lent and abstain from food. There are physical benefits to abstaining from food, but it is also a reminder of the ‘need to abstain from sin’. That is why fasting becomes a spiritual weapon. The following is a simple prayer that can be said before fasting.
God, grant this humble servant, who humbly prays to you, the great grace to abstain from sin in our souls when our body is not fed. May we have freedom both physically and spiritually. Amen.
