Pope Francis inspired youngsters around the world not to be “mean in their dreams” but to fight for “a better future” by turning “those hopes into concrete and meaningful actions.” The Holy Father said this in a message on the occasion of the inauguration of the World Food Forum that takes place from October 1 to 5 at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) based in Rome.
“Don’t be mean in your dreams, fight for a better future and turn those wishes into concrete and meaningful actions. Leave routines and false mirages behind and regenerate this world so shaken by the pandemic. And this will be a happy reality if they sow solidarity, creativity and nobility of spirit,” the Pope wrote to the FAO Youth Committee. The Holy Father’s message was read during the inauguration of the World Food Forum by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
In the text, the Pontiff recognizes that “today young people around the world are cultivating their creativity and energy to address the structural causes of the current food crisis, from protracted armed conflicts to the devastating effects of climate change. Their sense of belonging to the same community and to the planet gives them a powerful look of urgency to act and solve the challenges that afflict the human family in a new way. His gift to us consists in providing innovative solutions to tackle old problems and in the courage not to be limited by a myopic thought that refuses to change,” the Pope warned.
In addition, the Holy Father recalled that recently world leaders met in New York to celebrate the UN Summit on Food Systems where “they committed to working together to achieve the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal number 2, which is fighting for eradicate hunger in the world ”, for which he concluded that “his words are a promise to our brothers and sisters, our sons and daughters and our grandchildren”. In this sense, the Pope affirmed that “those who must now fulfill the commitments made in recent months are responsible not to disappoint the new generations.” The Holy Father assured his prayers for each one to be filled with divine blessings.
