Pope Francis Appoints a New Archbishop in Spain

Pope Francis has appointed the Mercedarian priest Florencio Roselló Avellanas, until now director of the Penitentiary Pastoral Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), as the new Archbishop of Tudela and Pamplona.

The Archbishop-elect succeeds Bishop Francisco Pérez González (76), whose resignation was accepted for having exceeded the age limit of 75 years for retirement, and who will serve as Apostolic Administrator until Bishop takes office. Roselló on January 27, 2024.

According to the EEC , Mons. Florencio Roselló Avellanas was born on January 10, 1962 in the town of Alcorisa, Teruel (Spain). He is 61 years old.

Since 2015 he has been director of the Penitentiary Pastoral Department of the CEE; superior of the Mercedarian community of Castellón and chaplain of the Castellón prison.
