Pope Francis received with pain the news of the earthquake that shook Morocco in the early hours of this Saturday, September 9, causing the death of more than 800 people.
A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 has been recorded in the Atlas mountain range, in the south of the city of Marrakech and the majority of victims are in the rural area of Al Haouz.
The Holy Father expresses his sadness and “prayerful communion” with all those affected through a telegram message.
Likewise, he conveys his solidarity with those who have been touched “in their flesh and in their hearts by this tragedy.”
The Pontiff also prays for the repose of the deceased, “the healing of the wounded and the consolation of those who mourn the loss of their loved ones and their homes.”
The Holy Father “prays the Almighty to support the Moroccans in this trial and offers his encouragement to the civil authorities and the relief services.”
Lastly, “invoke divine blessings upon all as a token of consolation.”
