“Holy Sudden!” (Holy now) the same cry heard in the Vatican today at the funeral ceremony of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. It happened before on 8 April 2005 during the funeral of Saint John Paul II.
In addition to the screams, in the Plaza de San Pedro it was possible to read a large sign that said: “SANTO SÚBITO” (A saint right away).
During the funeral Mass in St. Peter’s Square, presided over by Pope Francis, the faithful present launched a cry that encourages them to declare Benedict XVI a saint soon.
It was Benedict XVI himself who, accepting the request of numerous faithful and Church authorities, waived the five-year wait to start the canonization process for John Paul II, beatified in 2011 and canonized in 2014.
