Cardinal Parolin Looks Forward to the Meeting between Biden and Putin to End the War in Ukraine

A meeting between the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and that of Russia, Vladimir Putin, would be “very important” to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine, said the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

He said so in remarks to the media in Rome after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Putin would be willing to meet with the US president.

“Everyone in the international community must take a step and the Americans, due to their importance, must do everything possible, I believe that the end of the war passes through this dialogue,” defended the Cardinal.

Also, in reference to his meeting with Minister Lavrov on September 22 during the UN summit, Cardinal Parolin said that “it seems that the difficulty belongs to everyone”.

“Many institutions want to do something, we hope that the time will come to really stop the war and have a ceasefire,” he added.

“It is in the nature of things – continued the Cardinal – that the war must end and how can it end if no agreement is reached? I hope that this moment will come as soon as possible .”

Finally, he condemned and described as “unacceptable” the recent attacks by the Russian army on civilians in kyiv.
