Pope Francis recalled, after finishing the General Audience, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy, was celebrated on 4 October.
The Church celebrated Saint Francis of Assisi, the saint who recognized God in nature and to whom the Lord granted him the gift of being able to accompany him in the sorrows of his Passion.
“I invite everyone to imitate Saint Francis, patron saint of Italy, whose feast we celebrated yesterday,” the Holy Father told the faithful who listened to him from Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
In addition, he asked “that his example of consecration to God, service to men and brotherhood with creatures guide your path.”
On the day of Saint Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis published a message through his official Twitter profile where he explained that the saint “felt like a brother of the sun, the sea and the wind.”
“He sowed peace everywhere and walked alongside the poor, the abandoned, the sick, the discarded, the last. Let us follow his example!” exclaimed the Pope.
