On 20 September, an 84-year-old pro-life volunteer was shot while going from house to house in her community to report on a pro-abortion ballot measure in Michigan, USA.
The woman from the Lake Odessa village was reporting on Proposition 3, a proposed state constitutional amendment that would promote abortion indicating a press release from Right to Life of Michigan (RLM), a group to which the old woman belongs.
The statement notes that the victim “was shot in the back/shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation and that the man who shot her was not part of their conversation.”
“The man who shot her was not involved in the conversation and the pro-life volunteer does not know his identity or motive.”
RLM said the victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, is still recovering from his gunshot wound.
Chris Gast, RLM’s education coordinator, told CNA, the ACI Group’s English agency, “She is home recovering and in good spirits. She should be fine.”
According to local news outlet WOOD TV8, police said the pro-life volunteer was handing out flyers when she was shot, after getting involved in what police called a “suspected verbal altercation.”
The outlet noted that, after being shot, the woman headed to the Lake Odessa Police Department. From there, she was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.
The RLM news release said Michigan State Police are investigating the case and will forward the results to the Ionia County Prosecutor’s Office.
