While Pope Francis declared Albino Luciani blessed in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Sunday, 5 September, countrymen and loved ones who were unable to travel to Rome followed the ceremony together through a giant screen placed in the dedicated square to the one known as “Pope of the smile”, a place that was also decorated with Vatican flags.
Next Sunday, on 11 September, The solemn Mass of thanksgiving for the Beatification of John Paul I will take place.
The Eucharist will be presided over by the Patriarch of Venice, Msgr. Francesco Moraglia, by the Bishop of Belluno – Feltre, Msgr. Renato Marangoni, and by the Bishop of Vittorio Veneto, Msgr. Corrado Pizzaiolo, Diocese in which Blessed Albino Luciani served his priestly and episcopal ministry.
A small delegation from Argentina will also attend the Holy Mass, the place where the miracle attributed to the intercession of John Paul I that led to the beatification occurred.
This group of Argentine faithful will be headed by the priest José Dabusti, witness to the miracle that the young Candela Giarda received in 2011.
Among the different initiatives that are being organized for the Beatification of John Paul I, the presentation of the historical library of the Canale d’Agordo parish in the Albino Luciani Museum next Saturday, September 10, also stands out.
The town of Canale d’Agordo is located in northern Italy near the Dolomite mountains in the province of Belluno in the Veneto region. It currently has just over 1,000 inhabitants.
