The non-governmental organization, Refugees International, recently reported that Junta has denied humanitarian assistance to Christians in Myanmar. The military junta’s seizure of the Myanmar government last February has led to increased violence against civilians. Impacted areas include the southeastern states of Kayah and Karen, where there is a considerable number of Christians, and the predominantly Christian-occupied northwestern state of Chin.
According to UCA News, violence in Kayah state has led to widespread displacement, children hiding in caves and trenches, and constant fear of air raids.
Refugees International reports that civilians lack basic necessities as the Burmese Army (Tatmadaw) limits humanitarian assistance. Neighboring countries such as Thailand highlight blockage of roads and tough terrain as reasons for restricting cross-border aid.
Refugees International demands that neighboring countries step up their efforts to help victims to overcome these issues. The NGO demands that international organizations and countries such as the United Nations and the US assist and grant refugee status to those fleeing the country.
