36 days after the abduction of 17 Christians, among missionaries and their families, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The Catholic Relief Services (CRS), a Catholic humanitarian aid agency denounced that the island continues to suffer from widespread insecurity that affects the lives of all citizens.
Kidnapping is a significant aspect of the widespread insecurity in the country. People do not feel safe to carry out their daily activities because there is no security, “Akim Kikonda, CRS country representative in Haiti, reported to ACI Prensa on November 20.
“Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, there is a sense of fear and uncertainty about the future, and those who can afford it are leaving the country,” he added.
On Saturday, October 16, a group of missionaries from the humanitarian aid agency Christian Aid Ministries, based in Ohio (United States), and their families, were abducted while visiting an orphanage in Croix-des-Bouquets, a northeast suburb of Port- au-Prince.
Since then, the governments of the United States, Haiti, and Canada have been working for the safe release of the hostages.
