The Epiphany Octave’ helps us to pass through a series of epiphanies, i.e.,
revelations of God.

The guiding star, symbol of Divine guidance and providence, is not seen after the Magi met the Savior. It means they have seen the true light while meeting Jesus. After meeting the true light, “Light of the World” they no longer need to follow a star.

Today’s gospel presents to coming of Jesus as the coming of light into a nation of people who sit in darkness (living in sins) and into a territory shadowed by death by quoting the words of prophet Isaiah. During his public ministry this light spread all over Galilee through healing, preaching and exorcism (v.24).

“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned” (Mt. 4:15-16).

When the light of Christ splashes in our spiritual life we will be able to see the sides of our life. Today church is under the guidance of Holy Spirit. When we allow the Spirit of God (guiding star) to guide our spiritual life we are in light. Amen.
